Cahve Studio 2025 Engagement Ring Trend Predictions
Share
As we look ahead to 2025, we've made some exciting trend predictions, based on our own design style and the many conversations we've had with customers, jewellery designers and stone suppliers over the past 12 months.
We expect Engagement Ring design to be bolder, brighter and packed with more personality than ever before! Think wider bands, statement gems, square and rectangular cut stones, playful orientation and super personalised design cues.
Lets take a peek at some of the design trends we're most excited to work on here in the Studio.
Chunky Rings
Chunky Engagement Rings are already making a big splash, so early on in 2025. Traditionally, engagement rings were often designed with thin, delicate bands and smaller stones. Now, we're seeing more and more requests for bolder rings that make a statement.
These bold designs often feature wider bands, oversized stones, and intricate detailing that lend a dramatic flair to bridal jewellery. The trend is not just about size—it’s about making an impact and expressing individuality. For example, thicker bands with intricate engravings or texture can create a striking look that is both modern and timeless. Chunky rings are ideal for those who prefer an edgier, more contemporary style but still want a classic symbol of commitment. Whether you’re looking for a statement solitaire diamond or a more unique, artistic design, chunky rings allow for creative expression and a strong visual impact!
Statement Gems
Bigger is definitely better in 2025, especially when it comes to engagement rings. Oversized stones are becoming increasingly popular as couples move away from the traditional, modestly sized diamonds and opt for larger, more dramatic gemstones. Big stones, including diamonds and coloured gemstones such as sapphires, emeralds, and even more unconventional choices like morganite or aquamarine, are gaining popularity.
Large stones in engagement rings demand attention and are often the focal point of the design. The choice of a big stone in a ring is not just about size—it’s about making a statement. Large diamonds and gemstones can be set in a variety of ways, including vintage-inspired halo designs or sleek, minimalist settings, allowing couples to choose a style that complements their taste and personality.
Larger stones provide couples with the opportunity to choose more affordable gemstones while still enjoying the brilliance and grandeur associated with diamonds. With the trend for big stones growing, couples are finding that the size of the stone doesn’t need to be limited by traditional expectations. It’s about showcasing a unique, personal style that makes a lasting impression.
Wider Bands
We LOVE a wide band and so pleased to see this style now feeding into more contemporary engagement ring design. While traditional engagement ring bands were often slim and understated, wide bands serve as a modern twist, and allow for more playful stone orientation on the band itself.
Wide bands offer many advantages, both in terms of design and comfort. The larger surface area allows for more creative design possibilities, from textured finishes and engraved details to the inclusion of diamonds and gemstones.
Wed-Fit Design
Wed-Fit bridal sets are designed to ensure that the engagement ring and wedding band sit flush against each other (think iconic Tiffany Ring), creating a seamless and harmonious look. Instead of having the wedding band curve around the shape of the engagement stone, a wed-fit set ensures that both rings align perfectly, without any gaps.
Wed-fit sets are particularly appealing for couples who want a streamlined, polished look. These rings are crafted to fit together perfectly, offering a cohesive, balanced design that highlights the beauty of both rings. For engagement rings with larger stones or more intricate settings, a wed-fit set ensures that the wedding band won’t interfere with the stone’s design, creating a unified look that enhances the overall aesthetic.
The wed-fit trend also provides practical benefits. It prevents the rings from shifting or moving around on the finger, which can be uncomfortable. This ensures that both the engagement ring and wedding band stay in place, offering comfort and style in equal measure.
East-West Stone Orientation
One of the most exciting trends in engagement rings (and wedding bands) for 2025 is the rise of the east-west stone orientation. Traditionally, gemstones are set in the vertical (north-south) orientation, but the east-west setting places the stone horizontally across the band. This simple yet striking design change offers a fresh and modern twist on classic engagement ring styles.
The east-west orientation works particularly well with larger stones, as the horizontal placement draws attention to the shape and beauty of the stone. This setting is also ideal for unconventional gemstone shapes, such as oval, emerald-cut, or pear-shaped stones, which look especially stunning when placed horizontally. The result is a more contemporary, artistic feel that appeals to couples who want their engagement ring to feel unique and personal.
In addition to being visually striking, the east-west setting can also be more comfortable to wear. The stone sits horizontally on the finger, which can prevent the ring from spinning and making the stone more stable. The east-west orientation is versatile and can be applied to both engagement rings and wedding bands, making it a popular option for those looking for a modern, innovative approach to their wedding jewellery.
Square & Rectangular Cut Stones
In addition to round stones, square and rectangular shapes are becoming increasingly popular in engagement ring design. Shapes such as the emerald cut, radiant cut, baguette cut, and cushion cut are all trending, offering a fresh and sophisticated alternative to the classic round diamond.
Square and rectangular cuts offer clean lines, geometric symmetry, and a refined elegance that stands out from more traditional designs. These stones often have a more understated, vintage feel while still offering a contemporary edge. For example, the emerald cut’s long, step-cut facets create a unique, elegant shine, while the radiant cut combines the brilliance of a round cut with the sleek lines of a rectangular shape.
These shapes are particularly flattering for larger stones, as their geometry emphasise size and clarity. The cushion cut offers a romantic, softer look with rounded corners, while the baguette cut adds vintage flair as accent stones or centrepieces. Whether used alone or paired with smaller accent stones, square and rectangular stones are perfect for couples who want a distinctive, modern engagement ring that reflects their unique style.
Toi et Moi Design
Toi et Moi translates in French as "You and Me" and these ring designs are seeing a notable rise in popularity, with their unique two-stone, often asymmetric design, representing the bond between the two individuals.
Toi et Moi is one of our favourite design styles given the unique ability to mix and match stones, as well as their orientation on the band. Go big and bold with two larger contrasting stone shapes, or refined and minimalist, with smaller accenting stones.
James, our Co-Founder, recently proposed with a bespoke Toi et Moi design; two intertwining 18ct Yellow Gold bands, adorned with a 2.0 carat oval shaped black Diamond and off-set 1.0 carat round Natural Diamond. Clean, minimalist, but packed with personality.
