Trending Engagement Ring Designs in 2025

We like to do things a little (a lot) differently here at Cahve and we love how our customers tread that non-traditional, hyper-personalised line too. I mean, if you're going to do it, go ALL IN right?

These are the TOP 5 engagement ring design requests made by our customers this year:

  • East West Stone Orientation
  • Talon Prongs
  • Champagne Diamonds
  • Sapphires
  • Chunky Bands

Let's take a quick look at why each detail is so uniquely impactful and which engagement ring styles are most suited to each.

1. East-West Stone Orientation

Traditionally, the centre stone sits vertically (North-South), rather than horizontally (East-West) as is now more commonly requested.

For those seeking less traditional styles, East-West settings offer a fresh, modern approach to showcasing larger carat stones, without feeling overly formal.

We love this stone orientation as it ties the band design into the stone, making the ring feel one, as opposed to two separate elements. Elongated shapes like Oval, Pear and Elongated Cushion are in our view, best suited to this non-traditional style.

2. Talon Prongs

The devil is in the details. Even a minimalist design can be elevated with the addition of a 'subtle' design detail. One of our favourite design details are Talon Prongs.

A 'Talon' setting is where the prongs are bent over the stone and shaped into a fine point.

So why add Talon Prongs? Firstly, they secure the stone really well. With those longer points there is more contact with the stone and therefore it has more stone to hang on to.

Talon prongs have an antique / vintage quality to them, so if you’re hoping to add a nod to the 'old school' to the design, talon prongs are a subtle way to do it. They are also fantastic for elongated shaped stones such as a marquise or pear cut, where the points can align with the gem's shape.

Subtle, elegant and built to protect. What's not to love!

3. Champagne Diamonds

Champagne diamonds are FUN, non-traditional, sit equally well within modern and vintage ring styles, and (bonus), are generally more affordable than equivalent-quality white diamonds.

That warm, dreamy golden hue is a natural distinction in the stone, giving this stone an added layer of intrigue and personality. You'll find variations in colour, starting with a subtle golden hue, right through to dark brown. In any case, this stone packs a punch and we love to work with it.

We love a Champagne diamond as both the star of the show (single stone), or paired with coloured side-stones, say green or baby blue Sapphires. Now we're talking!

4. Sapphires

Precious stones aren't just limited to Diamonds. Sapphires are a stunning alternative to a Diamond and actually much more varied.

Sapphires come in an exciting range of cuts, but it's the range of colours that really set this stone apart. Sapphires can be sourced in blue, green, yellow, orange, pink, purple and violet. Some Sapphires can even change colour when exposed to different lighting, adding to it's unique characteristics.

We love to work with Sapphires and (as luck would have it) have access to some of the worlds most interesting and exciting Sapphires.

5. Chunky Bands

We LOVE a chunky engagement ring; bold, embraces personal style and packs an almighty punch once you've added stones. We like to do things a little (a lot) differently here at Cahve and we love how our customers tread that non-traditional, hyper-personalised line too. I mean, if you're going to do it, go ALL IN right?

Whilst this seems like a rogue, alternative choice nowadays, the style actually dates back to the Victorian-era. Gemstones were often set flush into the band (as opposed to claw-set), which protected the stone and offered greater practicality and durability.

Those requirements ring as true today as they did all those years ago. We're just better equipped now to find exciting ways to house stones and personalise to the wearer.
